Who We Are

Joel Wood:

I am a youth pastor in Abilene, Texas at Beltway Park Baptist Church. I have been at Beltway since February of 2014. I grew up the youngest of three children, with two older twin sisters. Growing up the son of a pastor I have literally been in ministry my entire life. I made a profession of faith when I was six years old and have spent the past twenty years trying to figure out how to have a personal relationship with Jesus.

In 2008 I was blessed to be able to marry the love of my life, Ashley. We have 2 sons, Jackson and Jonah. Being a husband and a father are the greatest things I have ever done; they are an adventure that gets me excited about tomorrow.

Geoffrey Turner:

I am currently a youth pastor in Abilene, Texas at an amazing church, Beltway Park Baptist Church. I have been there since August 2007. I am the oldest of 4 kids and grew up in a Christian home. I became a Christian when I was in grade school, but really didn’t make my faith my own until I was in junior high. I didn’t realize I was supposed to go in to ministry until I was in high school. I went to Hardin-Simmons University and before I even finished college I started working at Beltway.

I am married to my high school sweetheart Sarah. We have been together since 2003, married since 2006. On April 13th, 2011 my life changed dramatically, Sarah and I had our first child, a beautiful baby girl (she looks just like her mom), Berkley.

Chris Bruce:

I’m a youth minister at Bay Harbour United Methodist Church in League City, Texas, just outside Houston. I’ve been at Bay Harbour since January 2011. I grew up in Dallas, Texas as the youngest of three children in a blended family. While church was part of my life growing up, it wasn’t until my freshman year in high school that my faith became real to me and I surrendered my life to Christ. That moment launched me on a journey that led to Hardin-Simmons University and almost ten years in youth ministry.

In the spring of 2008, I met a girl who loved Jesus, dogs, and college football. So, naturally, I asked her to marry me. Rachel and I have been married since August of 2009 and have a beautiful daughter named Halle.

Summer Hoover:

Hi!  I’m currently the Senior High Discipleship Director at Grace Fellowship UMC in Katy, Texas.  I grew up in Allen, a north Dallas suburb, and was blessed to have been raised by selfless and loving parents who taught me about Jesus at a young age.  Ever since I can remember, I’ve recognized Him as my savior and am grateful to have always known that assurance. When I’m not taking sixteen year old girls out for coffee or having finger rocket wars, I spend my time with my new husband Andy, whom I was blessed to marry in November of 2012.  We have zero kids, zero dogs, and do not enjoy long walks on the Galveston beach.  We do, however, like to experiment with cooking, go out with our friends, and play Bananagrams.  Just two young married people having fun and convincing teenagers that we’re still cool and so is Jesus!

Bobby Cooley:

I am a middle school pastor in Tyler, Texas at Green Acres Baptist Church. I have been at GABC since May 2011. I grew up in Arlington, Texas in a single parent home. I became a Christian when I was seventeen and was never a part of any church or student ministry growing up. Not growing up in the church has given me some advantages and disadvantages for working in the church. I see things through a different lens. I have been in youth ministry for about ten years and God has blessed me to be a part of some amazing churches. In 2007 I married the love of my life, Jenn, and we have one awesome little guy named Charlie, I am a new dad trying to figure out how to be a parent.
